2007: A Year Of Firsts

Today is the first day of 2007. Due to the pending publication of my first reality-based novel, this is my first attempt to blog. Do I know what I’m doing? No. But I’m willing to try. Great people will challenge great people like you to take the first step — show up. Intimidating? Yes. Challenging? Yes. But not impossible as evidenced by the fact you’re reading my first entry. Do you remember the first thing you did today; the first kind word you gifted another person with today; the first smile; the first public display of affection; the first success; the first failure; the first fear; etc…? Hmmm. Quick question. How many of you honestly believe you’ve been divinely “destined to achieve greatness?” Is this the first time anybody has asked you to define greatness this year?

Can it be that “Greatness” has absolutely nothing to do with money, power, fame, wealth, prosperity or the “bling-bling” factor? Greatness is the result of a pre-determined process that begins within the heart of every gifted soul God created for a specific reason during such a season as this. We’ll elaborate more about the “gift of Greatness” as we grow older and wiser together. Are you ready to face your biggest fears and embrace Change? Gee, why not? Besides, aren’t you tired of watching your peers achieve the great things you “woulda,” “coulda” and “shoulda” done last year but didn’t simply because you didn’t believe in yourself?

Hopefully, reading these daily blog entries will challenge great people like you to “keep risin’ to your feet and steppin’ out of the darkness” of the hopelessness Despair created. May what closely follows what shadows seasons of Change challenge you to achieve something you didn’t believe was possible in 2006. Hopefully, January 1, 2007 will prove to be just the beginning of the best year of your life. But, can great women and men like us walk together in peace as we work together as one to achieve what appears impossible unless we agree to do so? Are you willing to show up and try? I am. As always, the choice to believe in yourself until you can beat impossible odds with God’s help is yours alone to make.

As you criss-cross the hi-ways and bye-ways of humanity’s culturally diverse global village, do something new to make a difference in the life of another just because. A smile may become the breath of fresh air that prevents an emaciated soul from quitting, giving up and committing suicide. During my darkest night of the soul, a breath of fresh air saved me moments before I pushed the metaphorical red button and self-destructed. But by grace still go I. Since God knew that I was one of those great people with great weaknesses, love inspired my Mentor to send many wise women and men to order my steps. Only God knows where I’d be today absent the insightful advice of the many unsung heroes and sheroes who steered my soul away from a clear and present danger. One of the many mentors of my blended, extended family gifted me with this pearl of wisdom,

“Never let the sun set on the same person twice.”

In closing, congratulations to all the great women and men who survived 2006 older and wiser than before the year began. Hopefully, reading this humbled beginner’s first blog will challenge great people like you to change the way you see yourself while looking at the face in the mirror.
