A Challenge For Such A Season As This

January 2nd, 2007 at 11:35am Manchild

Congratulations!  Today is the second time this year that you’ve exercised your free will to show up and achieve what you didn’t believe was possible in 2006. As you know, the first day of 2007 is now history.  Stick a fork in yesterday because it’s done.  Gone. However, before we move on, ask yourself a few questions that only you can answer. What history making moment(s) did you accomplish yesterday to inspire yourself to rise to your feet this morning and move one step closer to finishing what began on the first day of this unpredictable “year of firsts?”  If you didn’t accomplish a single goal yesterday, please don’t feel bad. God still loves you just as much today as He did yesterday.  So, please don’t give up even if you tried but failed, fell short of your expectations and missed the marked by a country mile yesterday.

As one who has failed more times than I have succeeded, this humbled soul can empathize with great people like you.  At least you showed up.  Besides, who am I to judge another since we have both experienced those painful moments when we stumbled, failed and fell flat on our faces?  Just keep showing up.  Do your best.  God will do the rest. The liberating life-changing process that began in the heart of your soul yesterday is not yet another legalistic endeavor designed to manipulate or unduly burdening you with guilt, shame and condemnation.  So, can you and I agree to walk together in peace as we work together for good to transform those painful moments from yesterday in the meaningful moments that will make history today?

Can we become the “first” galvanized generation of great women and men to do our part to close the “Great Emotional Divide of Distrust” between the heart-broken heart-breaking people we meet on these mean streets.  I’m willing to try.  Aren’t you? If you don’t know what to do next, a prayer is a great place to start.  Matters not the colour of your skin covering your smiling face, we can all pitch in and help each other win this spiritual chess game called, “life.”  As you know, a house divided cannot stand especially during such a season as this.  Imagine all the possibilities that will await us once great women and men like you do our part to stop repeating the same self-defeating cycle of self-destructive behavior that stalked one too many of us into 2007.

Matters not the colour of your skin, make this day the “first” day you exercise your free will to lay down the weapon you chose to destroy your history-making opportunity yesterday.  If you need some help, humble yourself on bended knee and ask Jesus Christ to help you change the self-defeating behavior that arrested the development of your gifted soul in 2006.  As always, the choice to actively participate in the shaping of this history-making day is yours alone to make.  Remember, it only takes a second to slow your roll and smile at the people you meet on the street.  As you smile while making history today, have enough faith to believe that God can do more in a second than either of us can do in a lifetime.  Think about it.
