Digging Deeper And Climbing Higher
January 8th, 2007 at 10:55pm Manchild
Congratulations! You got up and showed up for day 8 of 2007. Did you get some rest Sunday? What you do during what is still the most segregated day of the week is between you and God. Hopefully, you’re still ready and willing to dig deeper and climb higher than last week.
I discovered that the number 8 symbolizes a “new beginning” while reading the Biblical Cyclopedic Index of the OPEN BIBLE: Expanded Edition published by Thomas Nelson Publishers. If time permits, please grab a pen and a piece of paper as I attempt to illustrate today’s entry for those of you who haven’t tried to play the piano. Struggling to play the piano as a teenager with five thumbs taught me that the “8th” note of an octave was the same as the “1st” note. If my memory serves me correctly, the first note of an octave is ”C.” The next 6 notes are “D, E, F, G, A, and B.” So far, that’s seven notes. The “8th” and final note is the same note that started our octave.
Quick question. Did you ever notice that the number 8 is formed by connecting two circles together? Since the traditional start of our calendar week is Sunday, 7 days later will find us waking up on another Sunday morning. Do you think it’s all merely a coincidence, or do you believe it’s divine order, that a calendar week also has seven days? Since Monday is the beginning of a new work week for most people, let’s agree to exercise our free will to make today the “first” day we start digging deeper inside the heart of our gifted soul.
Before we take the next step together as our team struggles to keep climbing higher out of the hole we dug ourselves into in 2006, please take a moment to think about what you learned about yourself and your peers last week. Did you fail to give up and show up as often as planned last week because presented more sunny-side-down days than sunny-side-up days? Did you forgive yourself if you didn’t get up and show up at all last week because you procrastinated and waited too long to begin something? If not, please do so now because the rest of your team members have already forgiven you. How many times last week did the rising sun set on the same person twice?
Did you dig deep enough inside the place where secrets hide to discover the reasons why or did you fear what you might discover about yourself? Been there. Done that. At this point, is it safe to assume great women and men like us share some of the same shortcomings that hindered us last week? Besides, last week is what it is. So let’s not dwell too long on what went wrong last week. Can we agree to help each other learn from past mistakes so we won’t keep repeating them? I’m still readung and willing to try. Are you? I hope so. Thank you in advance for trying.
Now, let’s flip the script from last week and start writing a new script for this week. What did you learn to love about yourself last week? As writers, we can exercise the power of the pen to edit our entries, erase the words that don’t quite fit the theme of a message or an essay, juxtapose sentences. Don’t believe the lie that’s it’s too late to try to clean up and fix up the mess you made last week. Are you willing to try? I hope so.
Besides, the rest of your teammates are ready and willing to help anyway we can. How did it make you feel about yourself last week to know God still loved you and gifted your soul with the intellectual acuity to grow your vocabulary? How do you see yourself now that you know you have the God-given ability to actively participate in the making and shaping of your history? Our galvanized group of great women and men still has 51 weeks left in 2007 to challenge each other to keep digging deeper inside the heart of our soul. What I found sitting atop the emotional clutter in the seat of my soul reminded me of why we still need to clean house daily. I still have a lot of work to do. Do you?
Paradigm is the word of the day. Oh! You didn’t know you still had a “pair of dimes” left in the seat of your gifted soul to shift with your fingers as you dig deeper and climb higher today? Corny huh? That’s why I’ll stay in my lane and leave the jokes to comedians like Mo’Nique, who’s currently in pre-production for the “first full figured beauty pageant” to air on the Oxygen Network, Chris Rock, Jay Leno, Rickey Smiley, Bill Maher, Sinbad, Dana Carvey, Steve Martin, and Steve Harvey who now has his “first” radio show. Meeting Star Search winner, Michael Colyer, as he performed his stand up comedy routine in the sand on Venice Beach in sunny California changed my narrow definition of success.
Congratulations to the rest of the comedians who didn’t stop getting up, showing up, and standing up for your God-given right to achieve great things. How do you define success? Enjoy today as you spend some quality time in your secret place during your quiet talks with our Father. May the peace of God be with you today until we meet again.
